Oct-Dec 1994

Dear Brethren & Friends;

Greetings in the name of the Lord!

BLAST OFF - AGAIN: TOUCHDOWN PNG 1995
As mentioned in our last newsletter we are moving back to Papua New Guinea. The Lord continues to work in our lives as we place them in His control for direction. The Printing Service had been on the market for some time and we were wondering why the Lord had not sold it. On October 15th the Real Estate agent advertised die shop in the Auckland paper. The next day a man drove down to look at the shop and talk to us. His name is Athol Newson, he recently returned from Papua New Guinea where he served as a business manager for the United church. He just happened to be looking for a printing business. He was excited about what he saw, but had to sell an apartment in Auckland first. He called us on Monday and said he had just sold the apartment and would like to sign papers that week. The deal went unconditional on the 28th of October. He takes over December 1st and I work until December 21st. Kathy and I are booked to fly back to PNG on January 8th. We are busy packing. We will be taking back 2 x 20 foot container and a small car.

Many of the questions we had in regard to WHY the business had not sold sooner are being answered. The new owner did not want all of the equipment and we will have more than enough equipment to set up the printing work to continue to supply printing for PNG and the World Bible School outreach work. (The Lord knows what He needs!) The last major works we are involved with are books written by Joe Cannon which we picked up when back in the States this past summer. We have reprinted "For Missionaries Only" and have just finished (Nov. 26th) printing his new books "The Heart of the Missionary" and "Go For The Globe." Joe did not have the finance to get them printed and no time to seek out a publishing house who would print them. The Lord matched us up and I thank Him for the opportunity. The flight we are taking back to PNG is part of a special charter service operated over the summer break (in "s part of the world school is out Dec-Jan). Air Niugini is flying direct flights from Port Moresby to Auckland for less than flying into Australia or up through the islands.

When Mr Newson put in an offer for the business it was based on what he could afford and thus he could not buy lock, stock and barrel. Because Mr Newson is not buying all of the equipment we will not be getting as much money as we had hoped but we will be able to use most of the remaining equipment in PNG. Some we will try to sell off before we leave, some we will just leave.
We anticipate sufficient funds to allow us to clear all debts, pay for shipment of container and car to Papua New Guinea, pay for airfare to PNG and supplement our support until September 1995 when we plan to come back to see and talk with you.
Our support projections are based on all our current supporters continuing their support through 1995. Even though we think that we will have enough support to see us through to September '95 we would ask that if you can help additionally it would be appreciated. We at present are $1,500 per month short of optimum funding.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING SCHEDULED
We are sending Jab Mesa to Vanuatu for several weeks in January to help the brethren and to set up for our Leadership Training Series later in March and April. He was just here in New Zealand traveling with his sister's (Anna) family. They visited with their brother Stephen who is going to University in Christchurch. It was good to see him and Anna's family.

Kathy and I are definitely scheduled to travel to Vanuatu in March and April and if funds allow would like to take a worker from Papua New Guinea to assist us.

We are really getting excited now about returning to Papua New Guinea. We are receiving reports that the brethren there and the Melanesian Bible College are just as excited. We are just now finalizing the paperwork for our visas but do not anticipate any hold-ups.

A couple of years ago we met a man from Papua New Guinea while we were visiting the Solomon Islands. His name is Sir Paulias Matane. He is head of and runs a foundation for 'Integral Human Development'. We have kept in contact with him and he is excited to know that we are coming back. He has a TV program which airs on Sunday Mornings in PNG called "Chit Chat" and has written over 30 books. He is noted in the higher circles of government and a good fellow to know if we have any problems.

THE DREAM
More leadership training is critical at this time because of the diminishing number of full-time missionary families as well as less of a need for full-time missionary families living within cultures of the South Pacific.

It is good to see the receptivity of the Island people and the development and maturity of leadership in some of the island churches.
The printing service that we operate here in New Zealand has provided a very vital and central part in these developments.

Because of a greater demand in the islands for leadership training we want to become more actively involved in fun-time outreach work. The Lord continues to work!

We have already been asked to schedule schools in 1995 in Vanuatu and a couple of months in the Solomon Islands with Jab or Steven Felix from Vanuatu to get the Christians there together and more active and more mature in their service to the Lord. This as well as working in Papua New Guinea with the Melanesian Bible College.

We have been providing personal support for our work since 1987 when we suffered the loss of our then sponsoring congregation and over half of our support. Even as we desire to become more actively involved we see the realism of retaining the printing service to source the needed World Bible School materials and other needed tracts. This move to PNG will allow this transition.

We wish to thank you for your support in our labors, especially the prayers that have been offered. This next year looks to be a busy one and we ask for your continued support and prayers.

In Christian service your co-workers for the cause of Christ in the South Pacific,
