"I KNOW THIS THING CAME APART THIS WAY, I THINK." ERECTOR SET CREW AT WORK ON OUR HOUSE. I AM ON THE LADDER, GLEN FARMER AND STEVEN ARE HOLDING THE WINDOW-WALL UNIT AND BOB DUPONT IS LOOKING ON.

RAINY SEASON HAS FINALLY SET IN HERE. WE RECEIVE FROM 1-4 INCHES PER NIGHT. OUR ROOF HAS PROVEN HOL(E)Y. (I WONDER IF THAT WAS WHAT ZECHARIAH MEANT?) I AM CONTINUALLY UP ON THE ROOF WITH TAR TRYING TO STOP THESE LEAKS. THINGS ARE SLOWLY BUT SURELY COMING ALONG. I HAVE TERASA AND JASON'S ROOMS FINISHED, MUCH TO THEIR JOY. I HAVE ALL THE INTERIOR PAINTED. BUT BOY HAVE COSTS ESCALATED. IN THE LAST MONTH WE LOST ANOTHER 3% WHEN WE CHANGE OUR US$ FOR NEW GUINEA KINA. AT PRESENT WE LACK $3000 TO FINISH THE HOUSE PROPER. WE HAD HOPED TO MOVE INTO THE HOUSE BY TURKEY DAY BUT NOW DON'T FORESEE MOVING IN UNTIL MID DEC. THE SECOND WEEK IN NOV WE WILL BE GOING TO THE BUSH FOR A WEEK TO TEACH IN A VILLAGE TRAINING SCHOOL. OUR FAMILY WILL ALL DE GOING ALONG WITH THREE SINGLE MISSIONARY ASSISTANTS (MORE NEXT REPORT).

LANCE FRIIS HAS BEEN HANDLING THE BCC WORK HERE IN GOROKA. THE WORK IS UNUSUAL IN THAT WE HAVE OVER 15 COURSES IN ENGLISH CURRENTLY BEING DONE BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL ACROSS THE STREET. SOME GO THROUGH 2 LESSONS A DAY RETURNING THEM DURING CLASS BREAKS. SO, AS THEY COME OVER WE'LL YELL FOR LANCE, WHEREVER HE MIGHT BE TO COME AND GRADE THE LESSON AND GIVE THEM THE NEXT. LANCE FIGURES IF THERE IS A BCC PROGRAM IN HEAVEN HE WILL BE PUT IN CHARGE. LET ME SHARE WITH YOU SOME OF THE COMMENTS WE HAVE RECEIVED ON THE ENGLISH BCCS: "I REALLY APPRECIATE THE CHURCH OF CHRIST OFFERING THESE LESSONS, WHEN I AM HOME AND HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO I DO THEM." "WHAT DO WE GET WHEN WE FINISH THE COURSE? WELL THEN WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE CERTIFICATE?", "WHY ARE WE DOING THIS COURSE?"

BOB AND CINDI DUPONT LEAVE US THIS MONTH TO RETURN TO SUNSET SCHOOL OF PREACHING. THEY HAVE BEEN HERE IN GOROKA FOR 18 MONTHS WORKING WITH THE SUNSET ADVENTURES IN MISSIONS PROGRAM. THEY WILL LEAVE A VOID HERE IN THE WORK IN GOROKA. PLEASE PRAY WITH US FOR ADDITIONAL WORKERS.
SOME BAD NEWS, SOME GOOD NEWS. BAD NEWS 15 DEATHS THIS MONTH. GOOD NEWS-- THEY WERE RATS CAUGHT IN MY OFFICE TRAPS !!!!!!!

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY-- I SURE WISH THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE WE COULD USE TO GET THE WORK DONE. WHEN WE ARRIVED BACK HERE IN FEB IT TOOK $1.38 US$ TO BUY I PAPUA NEW GUINEA KINA (PNG K). THIS MONTH IT TOOK $US 1.53 TO BUY PNG 1 KINA. THIS MEANS WE HAVE LOST 20% OF OUR TOTAL WORK FUND AND SALARY. PRICES ARE UP ... THE DOLLAR IS DOWN. BECAUSE OF THIS WE ARE IN THE HOLE- WAY DOWN THAR !
USUALLY CONGREGATIONS HAVE SPECIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO MAKE UP DEFICIT SPENDING AT YEAR'S END. EVEN THOUGH WE DO THE WORK OF A CONGREGATION THERE ISN'T ANYWAY WE CAN COME UP WITH EXTRA MONIES. WE MUST RELY ON YOU. CAN YOU HELP? CAN YOUR CONGREGATION HELP? WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR OUR FANCIES. WE ARE ASKING YOU TO HELP THE LORD'S WORK HERE IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA TO CONTINUE TO GROW. SUCH AS: PIDGIN ENGLISH NEW TESTAMENTS HAVE NOW BEEN REPRINTED (THEY HAVE BEEN UNAVAILABLE FOR 4 MONTHS) THEY COST $1.80 WE NEED 200 NOW; OUR TOYOTA LAND CRUISER FOR VILLAGE WORK NEEDS NEW TIRES (I GOT 3000 MILES ON THE LAST SET) COST $330 , IF WE CAN'T RETREAD WE PARK AND THE VILLAGE WORK SUFFERS; OUR GASOLINE BILL FOR THREE BUSSES RUNS OVER $200 A MONTH (NOT COUNTING MAINTENANCE): ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS NEEDS, NO MONEY; PRINTING NEEDS FOR TRACTS, LITERACY COURSES & BCC-OVER $250 A MONTH.

THE CONGREGATION HERE IN GOROKA HAS REALLY BEGUN TO GROW SPIRITUALLY AS WELL AS CONTINUING TO GROW NUMERICALLY. WE HAD THREE BAPTISMS LAST MONTH WITH SEVERAL RESTORATIONS. ONE BROTHER REX HAD BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR OVER 5 MONTHS. PRAISE THE LONGSUFFERING OF THE LORD THAT ALLOWED HIS RETURN. THE CONGREGATION TOOK ON THE SUPPORT OF ONE OF OUR LOCAL MEN TO PREACH IN ANOTHER CONGREGATION IN A VILLAGE ABOUT 50 MILES FROM GOROKA. UBE WILL BE RECEIVING $75/MONTH. GOROKA CHURCH ALSO PROVIDES $75 TOWARDS THE FOOD COST FOR EACH VILLAGE LEADERSHIP SCHOOL WE HOLD. THESE SUMS MAY NOT SEEM MUCH BUT COUPLED WITH: THEY PAY THE ELECTRICITY, AND $32 TO SAILAS FOR LOCAL PREACHING AND THE CONTRIBUTION AVERAGES $40-45 /week THIS IS GOOD SOLID GROWTH. DURING THE LAST BUSINESS MEETING LOCAL MEN WERE MARKED TO LOOK AFTER OUR BENEVOLENCE NEEDS (ALL THE CLOTHES YOU SENT ARE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO NEED MOST).

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR NEEDS AND SEND WHAT YOU CAN. IF POSSIBLE MAKE OUR BIBLE NEED A CLASS PROJECT, OR SPONSOR A ROOM IN OUR HOUSE, OR SPONSOR OUR CHILDREN IN SCHOOL (SCHOOL FEES ARE $1500 DUE IN FULL JAN 31, OR BUY A TIRE FOR OUR VEHICLE, OR BUY A BIBLE OR BUY A GALLON OF GAS ($1.40/gal) OR BUY AN EGG- 23¢ EACH ......
