May 1989

Dear Brethren;

Greetings again in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

I blinked my eyes and another month is gone. Someone said the other day that time was really flying by it seemed. It could be worse, we could be in a jail cell scratching off the days in the wall.

PRINTING UPDATE
I mentioned last month that it looked as if we would be doing more commercial work to offset the loss of monthly support we are receiving from churches and individuals there in the States. We cannot reiterate enough the heart-felt thanks we have for the many churches and individuals who have fellowshipped in our work over the years since 1971. Many of you have had to cut back because of financial restraints and we understand. Again we just thank you for the funds and prayers you have offered up for our work. We continue to send our newsletter to interested churches and individuals even if you haven't or can't help financially. Our desire is that you continue to keep us and our work for Him before the Father's throne daily.

Back to Printing Update: this past month saw the printing of 172,598 copies. I have taken up some commercial printing and the income covers the rent of the building we have to lease. This past month I expanded the shop back into another part of an existing building. This gives me 1900 sq feet of floor space. Some might think this is pretty large but you have to realize we have 5 printing presses, paper floor guillotine, collator, large stapling machine, 2 folding machine and all the tables for set-up work and finish-up work. We have gotten the Typesetting machine I talked about last month. This machine now allows us to do in-house typesetting without having to take it to someone else and wait for them to finish it before we can begin a booklet or tract. We are buying it on a monthly payment basis. We felt it was an exceptional value and a much needed asset to our expanding work.

I have about 2 dozen tracts in the pipeline to be printed. I have begun writing the new booklet for the correspondence course and am about a third of the way into writing it.

I use Jason and the preacher's daughter, Cherie as helpers after school when I have a lot of work to finish-up. Something to be said about being busy: you don't have time to be lazy.

This is our winter time and I don't expect (and won't get any) sympathy. I have mentioned in the past that most houses and hardly any buildings have central heating. The heat is provided by small space heaters. My printshop is corrugated iron sides and roof with high ceilings. The temperature last week were around 320, with warming up to 400 during the day. I found out that some grades of paper and card will not flex in these temperatures, they bend. Which is fine if I was trying to print and bend. I now have a cabinet that I store certain paper and card with a light bulb for heat. I put my cans of inks in there as well. You should see ink at 320, makes molasses look soupy.

TERASA'S TRAVELINGS
We have gotten several cards and letters from Terasa since she got out of school in May. I thought you might like to know how she is doing. Her final grades were as follows: (won't she love me) Western Civilization-A; Music Appreciation-B; English-B; Bible-B; Crime 4 Delinquency-B; Speech-C.

She dropped a note from Amsterdam on her way to England. In England she went to Skelmerdale where they stayed for two weeks. They were singing in primary schools. They put on a 30 minute program with songs and skits. She said, "I got to play the devil in one of the skits because of my red hair and laugh. After the first performance all the kids had us sign our autographs and so I signed 'The Devil'." They went to Wigan to sing before the good news meeting started. In Wigan she met the preacher who knows Catherine Scott. His name is Frank Worgan. They had to go to Blackpool for services because vandals make it impossible for the Skelmerdale church to meet on Sunday night. (Should make us appreciate being able to meet unmolested.) She went to Wales where she saw a couple of castles close up and didn't care for the "terrible wind and the cold it brought." She sent another card from Manchester where they sang for a girls high school. They went to Liverpool for door knocking and leafleting also. They went by the stadium where they had the soccer disaster.

From Skelmerdale they went to work in Loughborough. She met up with Ken Mullan who was a year behind us in Sunset. He is from Ireland and was in England speaking. He had seen her name on the list of helpers and thought it was her and knew it was when they met and talked. She wrote, "Never can get away, somebody always knows daddy." (You bet ya.) She said they sang at one school and when they sang their first song about Jesus the Jehovah Witness kids were pulled out of the assembly by the teachers.
She said she is still going to try to get back over here and see us for the Christmas holidays.

OTHER FAMILY NEWS
Jason turned 16 in May and figured to be on the roads in a car soon after. WRONG! The government changed their regulations just after Terasa got her license in 1987. Now new drivers are on probation for two years. Jason took his written test (which he passed) and then took a defensive driving course. This will allow him to take his driving test in July instead of the normal 6 months wait. If you would like a schedule of when he might be on the road please write for a copy (it could be a wise move). Actually I have ridden with him a couple of times and IT SCARED MY HAIR RIGHT OFF. Really he's not bad until he gets behind the wheel.
Many of you have shown an interest in what we pay for certain items over here and for you I enclose the following:

Please remember the following in your prayers: Our Support (and/or business). TERASA TRAVELING, OPEN DOORS AND OPEN HEARTS, MONE PAIGOL (PNG student for support), WBS IN FIJI.

Until later, may the Lord continue to bless your desires for His Kingdom.
