OUR HOMELESS BIBLE SCHOOL
One of the main thrusts of the missionaries in Goroka since the work began in 1972 has been the training of men in the Gospel. At which time they can then take that Word to their own people. A semi-permanent Bible Training School was begun in January 1981. It is located 3 miles out of Goroka on 3 acres of ground. From the very beginning we have tried to buy it but the government is very slow in such matters and we have never finalized anything. The owner of the ground recently decided that he didn't want the Bible school on the property and made moves to terminate the lease. At first, it was with the idea of putting a brewery on the ground. Now he is talking of only putting a small pub there to serve beer. He's not sure what he will do, but he does know he doesn't want the school there any longer. Even though it has been some time since I taught at the school (printing taking up a goodly part of my time, with eating and sleeping following close behind) this last year the school was in session over 45 weeks during the year. They have had: basic schools, women's schools, non-member schools, advanced schools, leader's schools and a number of seminars. The purpose of the school has been to train people in Bible knowledge and to encourage them to share Jesus with other. It is sometimes hard to judge the effect the school is having but of the 17 students who completed the basic course last year, all have remained faithful and appear to be working and leading in the local congregations where they worship.

We are required to vacant the property that we are on by the end of the year. The missionaries have recently decided to do ahead and raise the support for the purchase of a new piece of property which has become available and is located just down the street from the Goroka Church property (where our house is located). It is an eight room building which will accommodate both married and single students for the times they leave their homes to come and study in Goroka. It has facilities for cooking as well as running water and electricity. (see picture)

GOROKA BIBLE SCHOOL
The Goroka church property would be used for classrooms and library facilities. This new property seems to be the answer to prayer. It win cost approximately $9,000. So far $1,900 has been raised. The company selling the property has given us until Dec 31st to make final payment. If you would like to participate in this need please send your funds to:

PNG KIBUNG IN GOROKA
The word "kibung" is Pidgin English for 'gathering'. On Sept.23-25 the national brethren from all over Papua New Guinea will be converging on Goroka for 3 days of lectures presented by national speakers. This kibung (kee-bung)is held every year to coincide with the forum being held there in the states. Last year it was in Mt Hagen. Usually anywhere from 150-400 attend.

BACK IN MY GARDEN AGAIN
Since our return to Goroka I have planted our garden. While back in the states I planted a garden behind my mother-in-law's house. Everytime she calls she tells me how good the veggies are. The one talk I can really relate with in the Bible is where Paul talks about some will plant but others will harvest. Our garden here is coming up (not roses silly): beans, tomatoes, peas, gn peppers, sunflowers, cucumbers, carrots, pumpkin and lot of weeds. We are also enjoying the fresh fruits of PNG again. We have several banana trees growing right off the back porch with stocks of bananas hanging from them.

LETTER OF REQUEST
We are always receiving letters from young people who wish to enroll in the Bible Correspondence Courses we have available. Many are something else. This one I wanted to share with you.

PRINTING LOG, INK DATE 8/83:
Printed 57,290 pieces of literature this last month.

Keep those cards and letters coming.

Yours in Christian service,
